I think empty string should be handled as NIL, I don't know if we have this somewhere in the standard. Actually I see empty string in an annotation for the first time.

Any of the above - I usually start in a simple spreadsheet - just to collect and order the data. Then I will perhaps use dia to make it look better.
When you say descriptive graphics, is this something we can do in .dot or would we be using .dia?

The classification of "External" or "3rd party" is unrelated to the technical semantics of a git repo (if any) and auto-closing (if git repository).
I could imagine that we would like to make a special "external" or "3rd party" project to associate with these kinds of issues. Whether there should be a git repository connected to this project is to be decided
