No automatic spellchecking
Open, LowPublic

Description

How to reproduce:
Click on "Write E-Mail" --> e-mail editor opens

Problem:
Participants expected a spellcheck right after selecting the language "english"
they didn't realize they have to click on the "spellcheck"button again to start the process

Possible Solution:

  • start the spellcheck automatically after selecting the language

probably better:

  • do the spellcheck automatically (in the language currently selected for the UI) and show that by show the "spellcheck" button ("Spell") as a "selected field", so the user can switch the spellcheck off by clicking on the funtion and "unselecting" it

AND give a better feedback if the spellcheck is "on" or "off" by tagging it as "selected"/"unselected". That means, the "Spell“ button shuld be blue (like it is now, but maybe a bit darker) or gray when active/switched on (and show it in the same color as it is currently the case when it is inactive/switched off)

Good suggestion!
Anyway I would not say that there has to be an action like "selecting the language" first, but I would except that as a default the spellchecker is always automatically active for the language in which the UI is currently presented.

So my idea is: The spellchecker ist always automatically active and underlines all misspelled words - e.g. when my UI is set to German, comparing them with German spelling rules.
The "spellchecker" button („Spell“) would then only be there in order to switch between languages/choose another language.
Then it should - as you said - again automatically be active for the new language as soon as one clicked on the language (so it should then start underlining words that are misspelt in English, for example).

Very important also to be able to switch the (automatic) spellchecker off! I find it a good idea to show whether the spellchecker is currently active or not. But I think instead of adding an extra „selected/not selected button“ next to the „Spell“ button, it might be easier to show this simply by e.g. making the „Spell“ button blue (like it is now, but maybe a bit darker) or gray when active/switched on (and show it in the same color as it is currently the case when it is inactive/switched off).

Yes i think thats also what David suggested in his comment to T2822

it was also just one possible solution to start the spellcheck automatically after selecting the language

I ment exactly what you suggested (e.g. a dark grey for switched on)
I'll make it clearer in the Ticket

@Testmiriam

Have changed your changes again a bit, I hope that's ok for you ;)
